About Us
Meet Angie & James
Angie and James are a husband-and-wife team who moved from Calgary to Mexico in 2018. In 2023, they began building their dream home, Casa AJ, with the intention of creating a welcoming space where friends, family, and new friends could instantly feel at home.
Their story is inspired by the spirit of Jalisco: the agave, resilient and beautiful as it grows under the Mexican sun, and the jimador, patient and dedicated as he tends the fields. Angie, like the agave, has rooted deeply into the land and culture she loves. James, like the jimador, brings a lifetime of hard work, care, and steady hands to everything he touches.
Now settled into their peaceful corner of Mexico, they offer a relaxed, flexible hosting style, guests can enjoy as much or as little interaction as they wish. James draws on decades of construction experience and spends his days cooking, maintaining the home, listening to music, and hosting friends, while Angie enjoys bike rides, volunteering, sharing meals, cocktails, and local tips.
Together, they’ve cultivated Casa AJ, a place where love, tradition, and hard work come together to celebrate life’s finest harvests.

At Casa AJ, our approach is simple: we want to make your time with us as easy and relaxing as possible. As former 60-hour-a-week workers, we understand that sometimes you just need a place to sleep, eat, and recharge, and other times you want to explore local attractions and return to a clean, quiet space to rest. Whether you’re looking for a fully customized, all-inclusive experience or a low-key “keys and go” stay, we tailor everything to suit exactly what you need.
